What was I thinking?

I picked out new clothes for each of the little ones to wear today (the oldest was already at school) and started helping them get dressed. The one and two year old were happy with their new clothing and let me help them get dressed. However, I made a huge mistake with my four year old (a.k.a. the princess, a.k.a. the drama queen).

I gave her the new clothes and she gasped in astonishment. I had picked out a gray T-shirt and black pants. "Mommy, I need a pretty shirt!" she demanded. I instantly knew it was a battle I would never win. She threw the shirt across the room and pouted. I told her fine, go upstairs and get a new shirt. Really, what was I thinking? I know her, so I should have known better. To me, just put the clothes on, who cares what they look like? I sometimes stay in my pj's all day long. I wear jeans or sweats and a simple tank top, T-shirt or sweatshirt all the time. However, my four year old is teaching me what it means to be a girly girl.

Apparently, a gray shirt is bad. This is for boys, according to her, it was her brothers shirt. (OK, so maybe it used to be his shirt, but it's just a gray T-shirt.)

This is what she picked out. This is for girls.

Lesson learned.
